Bringing a Catamaran Safely Across the Atlantic

Some sailings stick with you, and our recent delivery of the Catamaran from Lisbon to the Azores was one for the books. Between the 1st and 7th of November, we didn’t just transport a yacht, we lived an adventure, complete with calm seas, thrilling winds, and an unforgettable encounter with the ocean's most majestic creatures.

Pre-Departure: Anticipation and Preparation

Every great adventure begins with preparation, and the buzz of getting the Catamaran ready was palpable.

• Safety First, Always: There’s something satisfying about a perfectly prepped yacht. We scoured the sails, rigging, and emergency gear, making sure everything was ready to handle whatever the sea threw at us. Every flare, every pump, every life jacket was checked and rechecked it’s the kind of preparation that gives you confidence as you set sail.
• Engines Ready for Action: Knowing we’d need engine power for parts of the journey, we gave them extra TLC. Fuel, filters, cooling systems, everything had to be flawless. Hearing the engines hum to life during the checks gave us a little thrill of reassurance.
• Charting the Course: This is where the adventure truly begins. Staring at charts, factoring in winds, waves, and tides, imagining the journey ahead it’s where excitement meets strategy. With orcas on our radar, we made sure our plan was as robust as it was flexible.

By the time we cast off, the entire crew was buzzing. The air was filled with excitement for what lay ahead.

The Thrill of the Journey

Every day at sea brings something new, and this trip was no different.

Day 1: A Gentle Start

The first day felt like easing into an epic tale. With calm winds, we relied on the engines to push us forward, watching Lisbon fade into the distance. It was the perfect time to settle in, adjust to life aboard, and prepare for the excitement that was bound to come.

Days Under Sail: Harnessing the Wind

When the winds arrived, it was magic. There’s nothing quite like the feeling of cutting through the waves, the sails pulling strong, and the boat responding to every move. The Catamaran was a dream to helm, very steady, reliable, and graceful. It’s moments like these that remind us why we love what we do.

Orcas!

Midway through the trip, we spotted them: a pod of orcas, their sleek bodies cutting through the water. We’ve read the stories and trained for this, but nothing prepares you for the thrill of seeing them up close. We slowed the engines, held our breath, and gave them space to pass. Watching them glide so effortlessly was humbling—one of those moments you carry with you forever.

The Final Push

As we approached the Azores, the wind softened again. The last eight hours saw us back under engine power, navigating with precision towards our destination. There was a quiet sense of triumph onboard, knowing we were bringing the Catamaran safely to the destination.

A Job Well Done

On the 6th of November, a day ahead of schedule, we arrived in the Azores. The sight of land after days at sea is always a thrill, but this time it came with a sense of pride. The Catamaran was in perfect condition, delivered safely and smoothly after a journey that will be etched in our memories for years to come.

Yacht delivery isn’t just a job for us, it’s a passion. The adrenaline of setting sail, the challenge of planning every detail, the beauty of working with the sea rather than against it’s an adventure every time.

This journey reminded us of everything we love about what we do: the thrill of sailing, the satisfaction of a perfectly executed delivery, and the joy of connecting with nature in its purest form.

As we flew back to Lisbon, we couldn’t help but feel grateful for another incredible experience. Delivering yachts like the Catamaran isn’t just about getting a boat from one place to another it’s about living the journey, one wave at a time.
