Ria Formosa Discovery Cruise

The Ria Formosa Natuaral park is one of the wonders of Portugal and a top attraction for your stay in the Algarve. The Ria Formosa Lagoon stretching across the Eastern Algarve region of Portugal is a network of barrier islands and sand banks off the main coast that connect with the sea via a series of inlets, five of which are natural and one which is man made to allow easier access to the port of Faro. 

The Ria Formosa lagoon is a unique environment that is constantly evolving with the tides and offers a safe nursery for many marine species in their infancy. It is also a stop off point for migrating birds and widely recognised as a place of great importance for many species migrating between Europe and Africa, as such the Formosa is a birdwatchers paradise!

The shallow waters also make the Ria Formosa a prime location for Shellfish Farming with the Ria Formosa accounting for upto 80% of all Portuguese Clam exports. On top of this the Ria Formosa is a meca for Seahorses having one of the highest densities in the world.

The Ria Formosa Discovery Cruise can be tailored to your schedule and to the weather accordingly, we suggest a minimum of 7 hours for the experience to allow time to cuise there, explore the area, take in lunch and swim in the clear waters. The perfect day could even be 10+ hours as we enjoy the full day and cruise back into the setting sun, all options are possible!

Vilamoura is located pretty much at the centre of the Algarve and being the largest marina in Portugal is naturally the base for most of the luxury yacht charter options. Vilamoura also divides the Algarve with te beginings of the cliffs and rock formations to the West and the soft sandy beaches towards the islands towards the East. The best way to see the coastline in both directions is to book a multiple day trip or even one with overnight stays which is a wonderful experience.  Its pretty much impossible to see Benagil cave and also visit the islands (Ria Formosa) in the same day as they are in different directions.

Estaminé is a fantastic restaurant in a one off location standing completely alone on the "desert island", it is quite literlly the only building on the island and offers an amazing setting to indulge in a menu rich in local seafood and dishes that delight clients from all over the world. The restaurant is a huge hit and we often stop there for lunch on our discovery cruises to the islands, it really is the icing on the cake.
